Bezom (Bortezomib)

Bortezomib is a proteasome inhibitor used as an antineoplastic (anticancer) drug. It works by blocking the 26S proteasome, an enzyme complex responsible for degrading unwanted proteins in cells. Inhibition leads to cancer cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (cell death), particularly in rapidly growing malignant cells.

Main Uses

• Multiple Myeloma (newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory cases)
• Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) in patients who have received at least one prior therapy
• Often used in combination regimens with other agents such as dexamethasone, cyclophosphamide, lenalidomide, or rituximab depending on the cancer type

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to bortezomib, boron, or mannitol
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding (teratogenic and harmful to the fetus/infant)
• Use with caution in:
• Severe hepatic impairment
• Pre-existing neuropathy (risk of worsening peripheral neuropathy)
• Severe pulmonary or cardiac disease
