Bicatero (Bicalutamide)

Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal anti-androgen medication that works by blocking the action of androgens (male hormones) such as testosterone at the receptor level. It prevents androgens from stimulating the growth of prostate cancer cells.

Main Uses 

Primarily used in the treatment of prostate cancer (both advanced and metastatic).

• Often prescribed in combination with a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue (medical castration) or after surgical castration.
• May also be used off-label in conditions of androgen excess.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to bicalutamide or any component of the formulation
• Women and children (contraindicated, as it is not approved for these groups)
• Severe hepatic impairment (risk of increased toxicity)
• Concurrent use with certain drugs (e.g., cisapride, terfenadine, astemizole – risk of serious interactions)
