Erlonib (Erlotinib)

Erlotinib is an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). By blocking EGFR signaling, it prevents tumor cell proliferation, survival, and metastasis. It is a targeted cancer therapy, not traditional chemotherapy.

Main Uses

• Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC):
  • First-line treatment in patients with EGFR mutation–positive tumors (exon 19 deletions or exon 21 L858R substitution).
  • Treatment of locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC after failure of at least one prior chemotherapy regimen.
• Pancreatic cancer:
  • Used in combination with gemcitabine for locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic disease.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to erlotinib or any component of the formulation.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding (risk of fetal harm).
• Caution in patients with:
  • Severe liver impairment (hepatotoxicity possible).
  • History of interstitial lung disease (ILD) (rare but potentially fatal pulmonary toxicity).
  • Severe gastrointestinal conditions (risk of GI perforation).
