Gastrium (Domperidone)

Domperidone is a medication primarily used to relieve symptoms of nausea and vomiting by increasing the movement or contractions of the stomach and intestines. It belongs to a class of drugs known as dopamine receptor antagonists and works by blocking the action of dopamine in the digestive system. Domperidone is commonly prescribed to treat conditions such as gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying), reflux esophagitis, and nausea and vomiting associated with certain medications or medical procedures. It is often preferred over other antiemetic medications due to its minimal penetration of the blood-brain barrier, reducing the risk of central nervous system side effects. However, domperidone can still cause adverse effects such as headache, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal disturbances, and its use is associated with a small risk of serious cardiac side effects, particularly at high doses or in individuals with certain pre-existing conditions. Therefore, it should be used cautiously and under medical supervision.
