1. What is Hepatitis B?
- Hepatitis B is a serious liver disease caused by the Hepatitis B virus.
- It can cause mild illness lasting a few weeks or lead to a serious, lifelong illness.
- Acute hepatitis B results in symptoms like fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, and muscle pain.
- Chronic hepatitis B can lead to liver damage, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death.
2. Vaccination Schedule:
- Infants receive their first dose of hepatitis B vaccine at birth and complete the series by 6–18 months of age.
- Adults up to age 59 who haven't been vaccinated should get the vaccine.
- Adults aged 60 or older at increased risk may also be vaccinated.
3. Administration:
- Hepatitis B vaccine can be given as a stand-alone vaccine or as part of a combination vaccine.
- It can be administered at the same time as other vaccines.
