Imatet (Tetanus Antitoxin - Equine)

Tetanus Antitoxin – Equine is a sterile solution containing purified antibodies derived from the serum of horses (equine source) that have been immunized with tetanus toxoid. It provides passive immunization by neutralizing the circulating tetanus toxin, offering immediate but temporary protection.

Unlike tetanus toxoid vaccines that stimulate active antibody production over time, Imatet delivers instant immunity, making it especially valuable for emergency prophylaxis or treatment following high-risk injuries, contaminated wounds, or in individuals who have not completed their tetanus vaccination series.

Main Uses:

• Prevention of tetanus in individuals with open or contaminated wounds who are inadequately vaccinated or whose immunization history is uncertain
• Treatment of tetanus infection to neutralize circulating toxin and limit disease progression
• Post-exposure prophylaxis in trauma, burns, or surgical wounds at risk for Clostridium tetani contamination

Contraindications:

• Known hypersensitivity to equine proteins or any component of the product
• History of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to previous horse serum–derived products
• Use with caution in individuals with asthma, allergies, or immune disorders, as serum sickness may occur
• Should be administered under medical supervision with emergency management available for possible hypersensitivity reactions
