Imojev is a live attenuated Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) vaccine administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. It provides active immunization against Japanese encephalitis, a mosquito-borne viral infection endemic to parts of Asia and the Western Pacific.
Indicated for travelers and individuals at increased risk of JEV exposure, including those undertaking extended travel to endemic regions, visits during transmission season, stays in rural or outdoor settings, or accommodation without air conditioning or protective barriers. Vaccination is recommended for persons relocating to endemic countries, long-term travelers (≥1 month), and frequent visitors to at-risk areas.
Primary vaccination consists of a two-dose series with spacing determined by age: adults aged 18–65 years may receive the second dose 7–28 days after the first; children aged 2 months to 17 years and adults >65 years require a 28-day interval. A booster (third dose) is indicated for individuals previously vaccinated ≥1 year prior who remain at ongoing risk or face potential re-exposure.
The final dose must be administered at least 1 week before travel to allow adequate immune response. Concurrent mosquito bite prevention measures remain essential regardless of vaccination status.
