Infarix Hexa (Tetanus+Diptheria+Pertusis Toxoid)

Infanrix Hexa is a combination vaccine designed to protect infants from six weeks of age against six serious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, poliomyelitis (polio), and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) infections.

Active Components

The vaccine contains:
- Toxoids from diphtheria and tetanus bacteria
- Inactivated pertussis components
- Hepatitis B virus particles
- Inactivated polioviruses
- Hib polysaccharides

How It Works

Infanrix Hexa teaches your child's immune system to recognize and fight these infections by introducing harmless forms of disease-causing agents. This stimulates antibody production, providing protection when the child encounters these pathogens naturally.

Administration and Schedule

Administered by deep intramuscular injection. The standard course consists of 2 or 3 doses given at least 1 month apart, typically during the first 6 months of life. A booster dose is recommended at least 6 months after the primary series completion.

Efficacy

Clinical studies involving nearly 5,000 children demonstrated that Infanrix Hexa produces protective antibody levels comparable to separate vaccines. Between 95–100% of vaccinated children developed immunity to all six diseases within one month of completing the primary course.

Common Side Effects

Injection site reactions (swelling, pain, redness), reduced appetite, fever (38°C or higher), sleepiness, irritability, abnormal crying, and restlessness may occur.

Contraindications and Precautions
