Pneumovax 23 (Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine)

Pneumovax 23 (Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine 23-Valent) is a pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine designed to protect against infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. This vaccine covers 23 serotypes of pneumococcal bacteria and is recommended for adults aged 65 years and older, as well as younger adults with specific risk factors including chronic heart, lung, or liver disease, diabetes, weakened immune systems, and those without a spleen.

Pneumovax 23 helps prevent serious pneumococcal infections such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia (bloodstream infections). The vaccine may be administered after pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV15 or PCV20) in certain vaccination schedules.
