2. Types of Pneumococcal Vaccines:
- Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccines (PCVs):
- Includes PCV15 and PCV20.
- Recommended for children and certain adults.
- Protects against specific strains of S. pneumoniae.
- Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPSV23):
- Recommended for older adults and individuals with certain risk factors.
- Covers a broader range of pneumococcal strains.
3. Vaccination Schedule:
- Children receive PCV15 or PCV20 doses at specific ages.
- Adults aged 19–64 with risk factors and those aged 65 or older should receive PCV15 or PCV20.
- PPSV23 may be given after PCV15 or PCV20.
4. Who Should Not Get These Vaccines?
- Children under 2 years old should not receive PPSV23.
- Individuals with severe allergies to previous pneumococcal shots should consult their vaccine provider.
