Trust PPIUD (Postpartum TCu 380A) is a T-shaped copper intrauterine device designed for immediate postpartum contraception. Each device features 176 mg of copper wire on its vertical arm and a copper sleeve (66.5 mg) on each horizontal arm, providing a total copper surface area of 380 mm².
Indicated for conception control, the PPIUD can be inserted postplacental—immediately after placental expulsion during vaginal delivery—or within 48 hours postpartum. It is suitable for most postpartum women, including those who are young, breastfeeding, or planning to delay sterilization.
The Cu T 380A is highly effective (>99%), with only 0.6–0.8 pregnancies per 100 women in the first year. It remains effective for up to 10 years of continuous use while allowing prompt return to fertility upon removal.
The device works by interfering with sperm survival and migration, altering ovum transport, and stimulating a sterile foreign body reaction potentiated by copper. Copper-bearing IUDs produce fewer side effects than hormonal methods, though menstrual changes may occur—typically resolving within months postpartum, especially in breastfeeding women.
Insertion and removal require skilled healthcare professionals. The device offers no protection against HIV or STIs. About 5–10% of postpartum insertions result in spontaneous expulsion within three months; reinsertion is recommended if expulsion occurs. Not suitable for women with active reproductive tract infections or STIs.
