Urgiso (Solifenacin Succinate)
Urgiso (Solifenacin Succinate)
Solifenacin is a medication classified as an antimuscarinic or anticholinergic agent primarily used for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome. It works by blocking the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors in the bladder, thereby reducing involuntary bladder contractions and symptoms such as urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence. Solifenacin is selective for the M3 subtype of muscarinic receptors, which are predominantly located in the bladder, thus minimizing the risk of systemic side effects associated with non-selective anticholinergics. It is available in oral tablet form and is typically taken once daily. Solifenacin is considered effective in improving OAB symptoms and enhancing quality of life in affected individuals. However, like all medications, it may cause side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, and urinary retention, particularly in susceptible populations such as the elderly. Therefore, its use should be carefully monitored, and dosage adjustments may be necessary based on individual response and tolerability.
