Xabitor (Apixaban)

Apixaban is an oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) that belongs to the class of direct Factor Xa inhibitors. It works by blocking Factor Xa, an important protein in the blood clotting process, thereby reducing the formation of harmful blood clots.

Main Uses

• Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
• Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)
• Prevention of recurrent DVT and PE after initial therapy
• Prevention of blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery

Contraindications

• Active pathological bleeding
• Severe hypersensitivity to apixaban or any component of the formulation
• Prosthetic heart valves (not studied; use other anticoagulants)
