Xiflox (Moxifloxacin) – Broad-Spectrum Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic for Bacterial Infections
Xiflox contains moxifloxacin, a potent fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. This broad-spectrum medication is designed to treat serious infections in adults over 18 years of age, from mild to severe cases caused by susceptible bacterial strains.
Clinical Uses and Indications
Xiflox is indicated for the treatment of multiple bacterial infection types:
• Acute bacterial sinusitis – effective relief for sinus infections
• Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis – manages respiratory complications
• Community-acquired pneumonia – treats lower respiratory tract infections
• Uncomplicated and complicated skin and skin structure infections – addresses dermatological infections including diabetic foot infections
• Complicated intra-abdominal infections – manages polymicrobial infections and abscesses
How Moxifloxacin Works
Xiflox works as a bactericidal antibiotic, meaning it actively kills bacteria rather than simply inhibiting growth. The medication targets bacterial DNA replication by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes. With 100 times greater affinity for bacterial DNA gyrase than mammalian enzymes, moxifloxacin provides selective bacterial targeting while minimizing impact on human cells. This dual enzyme inhibition blocks essential bacterial replication and cell division processes.
Spectrum of Activity
Xiflox is effective against multiple bacterial pathogens:
Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and related species
Gram-negative bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae and related organisms
Atypical bacteria: Chlamydia trachomatis
Pharmacokinetics and Absorption
Xiflox is rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract with approximately 90% bioavailability. Food intake has minimal impact on absorption, allowing flexible dosing options. The medication achieves 50% protein binding in serum, enabling effective tissue penetration. Approximately 52% of the dose undergoes hepatic metabolism through glucuronide and sulphate conjugation, while 45% is excreted unchanged—primarily through feces (25%) and urine (20%).
Safety Profile
Xiflox is generally well tolerated. In cases of overdose, CNS effects such as tremor, somnolence, or convulsions may occur alongside gastrointestinal symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea.
For prescription use only. Follow healthcare provider dosing instructions carefully.
