Duosar (Losartan Potassium+Hydrochlorothiazide)
Duosar (Losartan Potassium+Hydrochlorothiazide)
Losartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) are often combined in a single medication to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Losartan belongs to the class of medications known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which work by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, thus relaxing and dilating blood vessels, which helps lower blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, which works by increasing urine output and reducing the volume of fluid in the body, thereby lowering blood pressure. When combined, losartan and HCTZ work synergistically to achieve better blood pressure control than either medication alone, making this combination medication a commonly prescribed option for patients with hypertension. However, it's essential to use this medication under the guidance of a healthcare professional, as it may cause side effects and require monitoring of electrolyte levels and kidney function.
