Adivia (Sitagliptin)

Description: Sitagliptin is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin (Insulin is the hormone that controls sugar levels in your blood) or the insulin it does produce is insufficient. This can result in an increase in blood sugar levels (hyperglycaemia). Sitagliptin works by increasing the amount of insulin that your body makes.

Indication/Use: In individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, it is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control.

Dosage: The recommended dose of Sitagliptin is 100mg once daily  as monotherapy. Patients with moderate renal insufficiency the dosage is 50mg once daily. Sitagliptin can be taken orally with or without food. (Direction for use)

Contraindication: Patients with type 1 diabetes, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients who are allergic to Sitagliptin or any of the product's components.

Special Precaution: Sitagliptin should not be used in the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis or in people with type 1 diabetes.

Pregnancy & Lactation: There are no sufficient and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, so Sitagliptin's safety in this category is unknown. Sitagliptin, like other oral antihyperglycemic drugs, should not be used during pregnancy. Because sitagliptin is secreted in human milk, it should not be used by a woman who is breastfeeding.
