Azathioprine is a prescription medicine that belongs to the class of drugs called immunosuppressants.

Main Uses

- Rheumatoid arthritis

- Autoimmune hepatitis
- Certain dermatologic conditions (e.g., pemphigus)
2. Organ transplantation – used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs (kidney, liver, heart, etc.) by suppressing the immune response.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to azathioprine
- Pregnancy (for RA treatment)
- Concurrent use with allopurinol or febuxostat without dose adjustment (risk of toxicity)
